School, Housakope and Girls’ Night

Hi friends and family! It’s been almost 5 weeks since I have arrived here in Ghana and God has been so faithful through each day. In the first couple weeks, I got settled into the routine of school and tutoring. Assisting in the 6th, 7th, and 8th grade classes has been so special and I have already learned new strategies from the main teachers. Such a blessing! For tutoring, my students are between 3rd and 6th grade and they are such hard workers! It has been an absolute joy to spend time with them throughout each week and see them develop new skills. After a couple weeks of being settled, everything changed again! I got the opportunity to go on a trip to the Volta region to visit a village called Housakope and assist in a medical clinic. This trip was eye-opening and tough and beautiful. God showed Himself in many unexpected ways, one being the surprise drilling of the boreholes that had taken months of battling to get. This village has always been without clean water, so they use the lake water to bathe, drink, cook, etc. which leads to endless health issues. The team was shocked when the trucks pulled up to start drilling! We were all honored to be able to witness that forever blessing, and are still processing what it means for us to be the people God chose to be there for that moment. Life will slowly be getting back to normal through a few exam weeks and long weekends, but for now I am grateful for some extra rest! God’s character of love and faithfulness has been so prevalent in this season and we are expectant of more to come. I can’t say these days are easy, but there is a special joy that comes with saying “Yes” to something God has prepared for you to step into.

Throughout the craziness of life here, God’s peace reigns over all of it. I am learning how to let that peace reign over my life always. The next couple weeks will include a lot of exciting things! This week we have Girls’ Night for all of the girls middle school and older, and my roommate Mari and I are in charge! It will be an all night event with snacks, games, movies, etc. Please be praying that we are able to bless the girls here in the best way possible! Next week will be training and fasting to prepare for the Coming of Age week. This is a program that teenagers go through at CORM to bring them knowledge and depth to prepare them for their future. I cannot wait to be trained and see what the week will hold! Please be praying for the teenagers and the staff, and their willingness to learn and grow. The organizers of the program are still working on getting to Ghana because the embassy somehow ran out of visas, so also include them in your prayers! We need them! I cannot thank you all enough for your support financially and through prayer. God is faithful!
